  1. Miss Di! says:

It would not be possible to get pregnant a week before your period is due.

Your cycle is is cut into two phases. The first phase can vary in length and this is leading up to ovulation. The second phase is after ovulation, and this is always 12-16 days before your next period.

If you are ovulating and getting your period in 10 days or less later, then this phase is not long enough to support a developing pregnancy.

Also, you CANNOT have a true period and be pregnant. Your period is when your uterus shreds it linning, which is what would be holding your baby. You can have bleeding which can MIMIC your period, but bleeding during a pregnancy is NOT normal and should be closey monitored by a doctor.

(edit) please explain how you would have a period and be pregnant??? I’d love to understand. Also i am RN for a OB doctor and have been for 5 years.

    FROM WEBMD
    3. Is it possible to get pregnant during my period?
Possible, but not likely, experts concur. The key is to determine if the bleeding is really a period, says Dolan. It may just be spotting between periods. "Some women have bleeding when they are ovulating,” Dolan says. "And if you interpret that as a period, yes, you can get pregnant."

Or a woman may have intercourse toward the end of her period and, depending on the length of her cycle, ovulate a few days later. "You could technically be at the end of your period, ovulate two or three days later, and the sperm is still there," Dolan says. And you could get pregnant. Not likely, but possible.

    4. If I get my period, can I be sure I am not pregnant?
You can’t be 100% sure, says Dolan. "It could be bleeding in early pregnancy," she says. "You can’t always tell the difference." Pay attention to whether it progresses as a regular period.

She advises women: If you have other symptoms such as nausea, check with your doctor. A pregnancy test might be wise.

(edit AGAIN) as i stated above they cannot have a TRUE period but have bleeding that MIMICS a period.

Also you cannot get pregnant a week before your period because that is not enough TIME to get pregnant. It take almost 10 days for implantation to take place AFTER ovulation and the egg has been fertilized. If you get your period 7 days after intercourse, the egg hasn’t even had time to make its way down the tubes and to burrow into the uterus.

  2. Dukesmom says:

It is possible to get pregnant at any time during your cycle – especially if your period is irregular. Of course, your chances are much slimmer before and during your period but Ms Di is dead wrong. It is also possible to get your period when you are pregnant, I know two people who got their period the first month they were pregnant – it’s not common but anything is possible. It all depends on your body – we are all so different and no two pregnancies are the same. It usually takes around 2 weeks to get a positive result on an HPT from time of conception, but you should wait until at least 5 days before your next period is due. Good luck.

EDIT: Miss Di – ovulation is not always the same for everyone. I have been told by several physicians that it’s even possible to ovulate while on your period. Your answers shouldn’t be in such absolute terms. Doctors don’t even speak that way. The woman’s body is a complex thing – nice to see at least one person has it all figured out.

EDIT: Well technically it wouldn’t be a period – but some women have bleeding that seems to them like a period. Can you please explain to me how you know that you CANNOT get pregnant a week before your period?

EDIT: Oh good ole web MD – why do we even have doctors? We can all go to the net. You’re wrong – you shouldn’t be saying on here (where young girls read) that you CANNOT get pregnant a week before your period – because that is simply not true – it’s rare but not impossible. That’s all I am saying.

  3. Katie says:

Uhm, miss di, are you a doctor? Nope.
I know quite a few girls who have had their period during their pregnancy, one got it even more regular than before she got pregnant.
Since you are not a doctor you should not be giving definite answers, Dukesmom is right, why give those answes when there are young girls reading this who are starting to get sexually active. An old friend of mine’s mom was told you can’t get pregnant your first time and what happened, she got pregnant and popped out Nicole.
I have been sitting on google for 3 hours now trying to find a definite answer but have had no luck.

I had sex 6 days before my expected period…. 3 days ago… I’m scared shitless and need an intelligent answer.
