I have a 4 month old Pit Bull puppy. I took him in from a person that couldn’t afford to buy dog food or shots for him. Right now I can afford to have him fixed. I’m trying to save up money to do so. I have a female Pug that is in heat and he keeps trying to mount her. Is there any chance that he can get her pregnant? Also, is there any place that will fix a dog for free or a very small fee?

  1. Bare Nekkid TRUTH! says:

yes, he could potentially get her pregnant.. if he’s attempting to mate, then he could get her pregnant.

Keep them SEPARATED. You can find low-cost spay/neuter clinics, but there is ussually a waiting list.. a recently neutered male can still get a female pregnant.. (he may carry sperm in his system for up to 30 days after surgury)

    ADDED
average age to hit puberty is 6-8 months, yes.. but some individuals may begin to hit puberty at a younger age. Matings are not as successful until a male is done with puberty, but if he has an interest in attempting to mate, then he can indeed possibly impregnate a female.

Its not a risk to take.. separate them until she’s 100% out of heat, or they are spayed/neutered.

google "spay neuter programs" with the name of your city and state to find low-cost options in your area.

Puberty in male dogs takes place at the age of 6-8 months. A 4 month old dog
is a puppy not adult. He will be able to become father after achieving puberty. But at the age of 6-8 months, his sperms are not of good quality and he might not be able to make a dog pregnant. This is possible at complete maturity that is 2 years of age.

It could happen and they should be separated until she’s out of heat. There are shelters and spay and neuter clinics. Look around your area on the computer. If the person you got the pup from couldn’t afford the dog and you can’t WHY would you take him?

I have food stamps and the spay and neuter clinic I go to, to get my dogs shots, flea medication and my dog’s fixed, was only $10 BUT only because I have food stamps. They do it cheaply though.

    He is too young.

Mounting might not even relate to mating. This is their way of determining the level of dominance in the dog socity.

You have to state where you are in order that people of your vicinity could tell you who charges how much for neutering.
