So I went to the doctor last week because I thought I was pregnant since I didn’t receive a period in 3 months. All my test came back negative and my dr put me on medroxyprogesterone to bring on a period. I’m still awaiting my period but after it comes on, I want to know will I be able to get pregnant because we are now trying to concieve. Will I ovulate during the average 12-16 days or will my body be out of wack? Thank you so much in advance!

Will any of you describe why your doctor is giving you this? I just read that medroxyprogesterone PREVENTS pregnancy and ovulation. Can one of you better explain why it is used in this case? Thank u!

Thank you for your additional info!

Progesterone is used to induce period. The doctor is hoping that by inducing the period that your cycle might reset. Whether you will ovulate or your cycle returns to normal is hard to predict but hopefully it does. If it doesn’t and your hormone and cycle is still out of whack then the doctor needs to diagnose why – most common cause is pcos or you recently stopped bcp.

i got pregnant two weeks after i stopped taking it. i guess it depends on wether you ovulate after or not. sometimes a progesterone period isnt a ‘real’ period so you wont ovulate.

I think you will be ok. I would think that once your cycle begins you will count from that day on and it should all line up (the days and so forth).

    Good luck
