It is indeed possible to get pregnant with an (IUD) in place, because IUDs are not 100% effective at preventing pregnancy. Around one in 100 women can get pregnant with an IUD, according to clinical trials conducted with IUDs, and the outcome of the pregnancy varies, depending on the woman, the IUD, and the situation. Due to the fact that pregnancy is a potential risk with an IUD in place, it is important for women to keep track of changes in their bodies while using the IUD, so that a pregnancy can be identified in the early stages.
If a woman becomes pregnant while using an IUD, most doctors recommend that the IUD be removed so that it does not interfere with the pregnancy. In some cases, the removal may pose the risk of a miscarriage, in which case the IUD will be left in place. The IUD will not usually hurt the baby, but it can cause developmental abnormalities. In other instances, a woman may opt for an abortion because she does not feel ready to have a child. The pregnancy may also miscarry naturally, with the risk of miscarriage being increased if the IUD is left in place.
One big risk of getting pregnant with an IUD is that use of an IUD increases the risk of an ectopic pregnancy, a pregnancy which takes place outside the uterus. This kind of pregnancy is extremely dangerous, and it requires immediate medical attention. Women who think that they have become pregnant while using an IUD should go to a doctor to confirm the position and status of the pregnancy, no matter what they ultimately decide to do about it.

Did you just get it put in? If so then your body could just be getting used to the hormone and you might find that your period is going to be a little bit different than usual until your body stabilizes.

The Mirena can actually cause you to stop having periods. I had it for 18 months and I would barely even spot some months and not at all others.

yes its possible!! however very very rare…my sister conceived through her iud there are however some complications if in fact you are preg one you need to go get it removed which can possibly result in a miscarriage my sister had complications with her iud getting pushed in further which made extraction difficult and ended in her needing to abort the baby. not sure if the shifting of the iud was due to pregnancy tho.. however if you take a test and you are make a doc apt asap to get it removed if you plan on keeping it :)
    Good luck!

While no birth control method is 100% effective, the odds of pregnancy with the Mirena are extremely low. (It’s THE most effective reversible method.)

Most women with the Mirena begin having light/irregular periods after few months, and many stop having periods altogether. It’s nothing to worry about.

Well my mother got pregnant with an IUD several years ago and she said that it just came out with the baby oddly enough but that was 30 yrs ago.. But I just had a beautiful baby boy who is now 7 months old and I had the mirena IUD they just took it out at my first apt. But they said that the IUD had moved and that is why i got pregnant… But i didn’t have any complications from it
