my friends worried because her and her boyfriend had sex 3 days ago and he came in her. she had just stopped her period the day before. so we were looking stuff up on the internet and keep seeing that you can only get pregnant when your ovulating. but then we seen your most fertile times are five days before your period, the five days when your on it, and the five days after. were both really confused, and my friends scared. it’d be to early for a pregnancy test wouldn’t it? so what should she do?

Okay, this is how it works:
1. On "day 1" of your menstrual cycle, you start your period.
2. About 5 days before you ovulate (about Day 9) you enter the fertile stage. You have NOT ovulated yet, but sperm can survive inside your body for up to 5 days. So, having sex 5 days before your period means that the sperm can still be around — just waiting for the egg to arrive — when you ovulate 5 days later. Also, some estimates are wider — that sperm can live inside your body for up to 7 days…..so in that case, your fertile period would start earlier, like Day 7. Depending on how long her period lasted, she could have just finished her period the day before and then had sex at the very start of her fertile period.
3. Then, on Day 14, you ovulate. You are MOST fertile on the day that you ovulate.
4. The egg doesn’t immediately go away. It sticks around for about 48-72 hours. So days 15-16 are often counted in your fertile period too.
5. Then the egg leaves. For this reason, you are unlikely to get pregnant on days 17-28. Plus, you are very unlikely to get pregnant while you’re on your period, so the safest time is days 17 (of one cycle) – 5 (of the next cycle.
What makes it all so confusing is that this is based off of a perfectly regular, 28-day cycle. Most women don’t ovulate exactly on day 14. Some women have 30-32 day cycles. It is very normal — especially if your friend is pretty young — to have irregular cycles that make it difficult to predict when ovulation occurs.
Because it has been 3 days, your friend can no longer get a prescription for Plan B. She will have to wait 2 weeks and do a pregnancy test. Even if it is negative, if she is late on her next period, she should take a pregnancy test.
She should not have sex any more times until the end of the month. If, at the end of the month, she has no suspicions that she is pregnant, she should go to a doctor and get a prescription for birth control pills. AND, she should make her boyfriend wear a condom next time. It takes two to tango and if you’re really not ready for a baby, then it takes two forms of birth control. Condoms and the Pill are a good way to ensure that everyone takes some responsibility and that your chances of pregnancy are really low. It is important for him to feel some of the responsibility of this too.
Yes you need to ovulate but the sites you are looking on are rubbish. the chances of her being pregnant are extremely slim on a normal 28 day cycle a woman will ovulate roughly on day 14 but their is always a chance that if you have unprotected sex that a pregnancy might happen and it has been known that some women can fall pregnant just after a period so always use protection if you don’t want a baby
This is true- you can only get pregnant if you are ovulating, but the thing you need to remember is that sperm can live anywhere from 3-5 days, and I have even heard that under the very best conditions it can live up to 7 days, which means that if you have sex up to 7 days before you ovulate, you can get pregnant. Also important to remember is that not every woman ovulates mid cycle every cycle. You can ovulate on day 9, and say you have a 7 day period if you have sex the lat day of your period and then ovulate on day 9, you can get pregnant. So what to do now? She can take plan B as long as it has been 72 hours or less from the time she had sex. She can get plan B at any pharmacy, and they keep it behind the counter so she will have to ask for it. If she is younger than 17 she will need a prescription from a doctor, or she can get it for free at a planned parenthood. It costs about $40. If it has been longer than 72 hours then all she can do is wait until her period is due and take a pregnancy test if it is late. Then, if she is pregnant, she can get the abortion pill or else prepare to raise a baby.
If your friend had sex three days ago, and the 72 hour time span has passed then it is too late to take the Plan B pill, yes, she can get pregnant after her period, it happened to me, I thought I was safe, and then I got pregnant.
Your friend should wait until her next period is due and then take a test.
She will need to test in 14 days
