I’ve noticed alot of girls on Yahoo saying they got preg while on the pill.

But I also read that the pill is at least 98% effective. So are they getting pregnant the 99th time they have sex, or are there other factors like being overweight, drinking/smoking, taking antiobiotics or just not taking em on the same day everyday?

My pill is advertised at over 99% effective. True accidents on the pill are rare, rare, rare. Also, 99% effective does not mean for every 100 times you have sex you’ll become pregnant. It’s for every 100 women using the pill for a year, having sex as much or little as they please, one of those women will become pregnant. That 1 woman has a true accident. All the others didn’t take it correctly, took medications that interfere, or just plain lied about being on it. Never trust a woman when she says she’s on the pill. Be responsible for yourself.

Any chemical imgbalance in your body can cause the pill not to work … any kind of medicine can affect the way your body works … OTC cold medicines, pain killers, etc

They could not be taking them right. Missing days. Almost all of the things you suggested can be factors in why they are getting pregnant. I don’t think that the overweight thing would cause anything. Or sometimes it just happens. If it is meant to be it is meant to be.

It’s probably because most girls forget one pill or more. And the other factors such as smoking and drinking could affect the outcome of the effectiveness of the pill.

Some women dont take the pills correctly and others fall into that 2% + get pregnant.

A lot of factors fall in to this category. I was on the pill and ended up pregnant twice!! I was very religious about taking it also, never missed a dose took it at the same time everyday. But it happens. Could be medicine, a complete chemical imbalance with her body.

Most likely because they don’t take them how they’re supposed to. If you miss a pill at various stages in a pack, you have to do different things. Some girls just take it late and forget about it. Tsk tsk… there’s instructions on the package.

The real reason is because the guys in their lives don’t wear rubbers.

I taught my son to never, ever trust a woman about birth control, not at least until you are ready to marry her and have a family. Always, always, always, wrap it. I’ve seen to many girls get pregnant on purpose in order to keep their man. Ridiculous plot, that nearly always fails, but they still keep doing it.

This advice has worked so far, he is nearly 24 years old and no grand-babies…

    thank god.

You are right about birth control pills not being 100% effective. Even if they are taken properly they aren’t 100% effective, but when you start adding in forgetting to take them even the 98% effective number falls lower.

As for being overweight or a heavy smoker both of those tend to make conception a little more difficult with a higher rate of spontaneous abortion, but that does not mean they should be used as a means of birth control or to abort a fetus as it doesn’t work like that…

The best way to prevent pregnancy is to abstain.

I’ve heard it too many times, and as a women I too think many woman say they are on the Pill, but they are not and they just want a baby.

    Men watch out!!

It’s really important to take them at the same time everyday. That isn’t always easy to remember.

Also it’s a numbers thing. There are a lot of people on the Internet so think about it someone is going to be that 2%. So out of a hundred girls 2 are going to have had it happen just based on the infallibility of it not just the other reasons you mentioned. A thousand means 20 girls, ten thousand means 200 girls, and a hundred thousand means 2000 girls. Millions of people are on the Internet that is a lot of women falling in that 2%

The pill isn’t the same as it was a decade ago, not to mention 20 years ago, it has come down a lot in the amount of hormones that it used to contain, less hormones means less complications. Many women don’t know if they have a lot of breakthrough bleeding then it could be because the pill they are on doesn’t have enough hormones to keep them from ovulating. Also the pill doesn’t alway keep you from ovulating when working correctly, but instead doesn’t allow a fertilized egg to implant. Most people aren’t even aware of that.
