My husband and I want to start trying to have a baby but he just started a new job and the insurance doesn’t kick in until 90 days. We put in all the paperwork to HR but aren’t sure if in Dec when it kicks in they can jack up the premiums because I might be pregnant already or how that works. I heard that some insurances will take a referral letter from a previous insurance company, how does that work? Anyone else in this situation? What options have you found that are affordable? We are in Utah btw.

On a group policy, the insurance company takes a census from the employer and underwrites the risk of the group. So, if the insurance company wants to jack up the rates, they will have to do it to the entire group and only when the employer renews the coverage.
The insurance company has to accept you.
In actuality, woman of child bearing years are more expensive to insure, especially when compared to young males… just a little bit of info.
But, you should get a short-term health insurance to cover the gap (if you aren’t covered by COBRA). Just google it… or yahoo it…
Good luck.
A group policy through an employer cannot exclude pregnancy as a pre-existing condition and they cannot "jack up" the premiums on any one person for any reason. This is a federal regulation and is the same in every state. You will be covered at the same price whether you are pregnant or not.
Getting insurance through his work is your ONLY shot. WORK insurance like that, cannot exclude pregnancy as a preexisting condition, so you don’t need that "letter of prior credible coverage".
There ARE no other options, though – If you have no insurance when you conceive, it’s either welfare health insurance, if you can qualify, or coverage through a group plan. It’s too late to buy PRIVATE insurance.
