My husband and I plan to try for a baby next year when I am 24 and he is 26.

I have never been pregnant before and have been on birth control for 5 years since we started dating.

I plan to go off birth control 3 months before we plan to conceive.

I am in excellant shape, I eat right, I don’t drink, smoke, do drugs, etc.

I am very healthy and I have never had any trouble with my cycles.

I have had regular check ups that were always normal.

Should I expect to get pregnant fairly soon after trying?

Should be easy for me since I am young, healthy and "normal"?

Remember it takes two people to make you pregnant. So even if you are healthy and fertile doesn’t mean your husband is. If everything is good with you both it should happen within 6 months, but there are so many things that could not work with one of you that could delay things. Just let it take it’s time and it will happen when it is right.

I wasnt trying but my boyfriend cant wear condoms, and I have scary side effects from all types of birth control so we made a huge commitment before ever deciding to have sex. When we started dating I was 17 and he was 22, Now he is 24 and Im almost 20.

It took roughly a 1.5 years and I was pregnant.
    Due March 4, 2007

    Good Luck

This is my standard answer……… go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive. My Doctor recommended it to me and after 1 year of trying I got the book. It worked the very next month. It turns out that my timing was wrong due to mis-information. I hope it helps you, too! It’s not only about getting pregnant. It’s about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don’t listen the all the myths!

My husband and I have 3 kids and one more on the way. It only took us 1 try each time to get pregnant each time. You might want to go off birth control sooner than three months, and find a ‘natural family planning’ class near you! These classes are not just for birth control, they teach you when is the best time to have sex to get pregnant, also. We took one years ago and I always knew when my most fertile day was, and I knew that I was pregnant before the pregnancy test came back positive.

    Good luck!

Everyone is different. It took me 3 months of trying. I had used diaphram and spermacide. I was much older when I had my son, than my sister was when she had her kids.
It took my sister 10 years. She had used birth control pills. She was much healthier than was I.
Also, it isn’t just you, it is your husband. He may not have fast-moving, healthy sperm, even if he’s really healthy. Your health and age is not an indicator of how fast you’ll get pregnant. You should, however, also be taking vitamins & seeing a Dr, before you get pregnant, as well as during your pregnancy.
Finally, this isn’t the best site for getting info.

I stopped taking birth control pills near Christmas of 2004. I got pregnant the following April. This time around, we weren’t trying. I had our daughter in January of this year, and by June we were pregnant again.

  8. call me cute says:

from whatever u have written,i don’t think conceiving would be a problem.i would say u will conceive in the first 2-3 months itself.my cousin was also on birth control and she conceived the first month after getting off the pills.

  9. Tim says:

First get of the pill sooner. Use condoms till your ready. As for how long it took my wife to get pregnant. About 1 hour of great sex.

We are just fertile as heck. Each person is different and you wont know for sure till you try or have medical test done. I would go for the trying its alot more fun.

  10. shiann says:

It took me 4 years of trying and 1 of not trying…then BAM!

  11. Billy says:

We conceived almost immediately for both our daughters.

    Fertility was not a problem.

    Good luck.

  12. Andrea S says:

1 year for the first and 4 months for the second and the third was a surprise.

  13. realmomof4 says:

for each of my 4 pregnancies, i conceived the first time, the very date we tried. Same with my best friend when she had her children.

The biggest causes of infertility and not being able to conceive easily are STD’s and waiting too long i.e. until age-related infertility begins at age 27 or so (see Time Magazine article below) You are at the optimum age for pregnancy.

Your chance as a woman of becoming infertile as you age:
    15-24 years old………. 4.1%
    25-34 years old………. 13.1%
    35-44 years old………. 21.4%
    (National Center for Health Statistics).

You haven’t waited too long, so you have a great chance of conceiving very soon after going off contraception. Not only that, but it sounds like you take great care of yourself. Sounds like you’ll be the perfect momma! :)

    Good luck and best wishes!!!
