It takes about 30 minutes for the sperm to get to the egg.

However you have to ovulate (drop an egg) for the sperm to fertilize it. Most women ovulate about a week or two after their period. If you’re next period is really 3 days away it is unlikely that you would be pregnant but not impossible. But sperm can stay in your system for 72 hours if an egg drops in that time, you might get pregnant.

You can’t do a pregnancy test (really accurately) until a day or two before your missed period.

It all depends on the lenght of your cycle and when you ovulate. Me for instance, I have a cycle of 31 days, and I get my period every 31 days. You ovulate usually about two weeks after your period. "usually, the rule of thumb is like this…if you are regular with your periods, every 28 days, then two weeks after your period is your ovulation time….count 14 days back from the first day of your last period, and 14 days ahead and that date is the ovulation time….." But if you are expecting your period in three days, then you probably aren’t pregnant because your egg has already passed through your fallopean tubes and is about to be prepared to be exited (your period) Good luck!

You can only get pregnant if you are ovulating! That is about 12-14 days after the start of your last period. So if you have sex and your period is due three days from then chances are you won’t get pregnant.

So, if you got pregnant the first cycle you tried you’d have to have sex before you ovulate, you ovulate 14 days before your expected period, the sexual intercourse needs to occur 24 hours before you ovulate. Now, conception will occur within 12-24 hours after ovulation, but you still need to have sex 1-6 days before you ovulate (it takes sperm 24 hours to travel from your cervix to your fallopian tubes to meet the ovum).

After conception it takes 6-10 days for pregnancy to actually occur, that is implantation defines pregnancy and that occurs 6-10 days after ovulation! So, the minimum time it takes between sexual activity and pregnancy is 7 days but it can take 17 days. Yes you need to wait until your missed expected period to know, well unless you are peeing on a stick 5 days before the expected period using one’s morning urine.
