I am 9 weeks pregnant, and have started to walk everyday. I am very overweight, and don’t want to be even bigger at the end of my pregnancy! I want to stay as healthy as I can for the baby and myself. After the pregnancy I plan on actually losing weight, but during I would like to get in better shape. I walked 2.5 miles yesterday, and it felt great. Is that too much though?

this early on that is not too much walking (if your overweight and you are straining then this may be too much)..but as you get further into the pregnancy you should not walk that much if your body cant handle it…you need to eat right (this is not the time to loose weight) your doc will tell you exactly what you can and cant do and exactly the intensity so just ask him…i was in the same boat as you..i was not extremely overweight when i became pregnant but i ate whatever i wanted bec i thought hmm im pregnant and im craving it all women do it and eat as much whenever..DONT DO IT LOL…i had my son nine months ago and still have 5 out of 30 pregnancy pounds to loose before i can even get into losing what i weighed before pregnancy ..so my advice to you and eat sensibly..and when that baby craves a sweet ..eat a sweet fruit instead of cookie or whatever you can find lol as for the exercise ask doc….he told me i had to stop playing tennis but all low pact exercise is okay especially WALKING :) hope i was of some help!! take care and best of luck

Just make sure you listen to your body, talk to your dr also incase they know something about your pregnancy we dont know. As long as your not high risk you should be fine just dont go crazy on exercise, try to ease into it. Most overweight women, especiall those who start working out and eating right when pregnant, end up losing weight during pregnancy. This is fine as long as its done right and the baby will still grow as its supposed to. My friend was overweight and lost about 5-10lbs by end of her pregnancy but her baby got everything she needed and was born healthy and happy. Good luck and congrats

As long as you aren’t doubled over in pain from working out too hard, theres no need to relax on your workouts. You can be 9 months pregnant and go out for a 5 mile run as long as it was something you could do when you weren’t pregnant. Fitness makes pregnancy, and labor easier s well! You did not walk too much!

well if you’re overweight then i’m not so sure.
but from my experience, you shouldn’t exercise too much.
i was 5-6 months pregnant & began walking around my apartments everyday, walking my dogs. i walked so much. Halloween night was the last night i’d ever be walking. i walked around a lot and when i went to my gyno’s two days later, i was dilated 2 cm. at just 7 months.
i almost went into premature labor twice.
i had to get two shots in my butt lol and i was confined to permanent bedrest until labor.
by the time i was induced, i was 4cm so i wasn’t in labor for long.
    maybe about 6 hours.
so it can be good and bad. good luck to you.

Walking or riding an exercise bike is great exercise and it won’t hurt the baby. In the beginning you’ll feel very happy to walk that far and in the end you likely won’t want to walk that far :) Make sure you stop eating food with lots of preservatives and fat (like fastfood) because that stuff gets retained in your body. Eat as much healthy stuff as you can like fruits, veggies and salad.

I was 263 when I got pregnant with #3 (I put on 60 lbs since the birth of #2 because my dad died when I was pregnant, then his dad, then his mom and an aunt all died within a year of him). I am down to 250 lbs, not including the weight I’ll lose when the baby is born :) They will monitor the baby and keep track of everything for you. Just make sure you eat when you’re hungry, and eat healthy. Do NOT skip meals or try to eat less, just healthier. Make sure you take your prenatal vitamins too!!!
