My period is a little late, I started it April 8th and its now 30 days later, May 7th and still no period. I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative. Is it possible to have a false negative? How often does that happen? What are the contributing factors?
Also I have been sick the last 2 weeks with strep, I do not know if that matters. But I have been kind of nausous and light headed, not sure if from being sick or not.

  1. *Sweetheart* says:

False negatives happen all the time to everyone. They can be from your hormones not being strong enough yet, your pee being diluted, the test not being sensitive enough, it happens all the time. Even to me when I was pregnant.

  2. be reasonable says:

You need to follow the instructions on the pregnancy test EXACTLY. Even doctor’s offices consider over the counter pregnancy test to be accurate. If you did it right and it came out negative then you are not pregnant. Pregnancy test do not give false negatives if done correctly.

  3. Amber says:

False negatives are more common that false positives. You could be pregnant so wait a few more days before testing again.

  4. Audrey A says:

Its possible you are either not pregnant, or there isn’t enough pregnancy hormone in your system for it to show up on a test. Wait a few days and retest. Or you could go to the doctor and get a blood test. They are more accurate than urine tests.

  5. Jenn says:

You could be pregnant but maybe your body is not producing enough HCG (pregnancy hormone). If you do not get it soon call your doctor or obgyn. You could have ectopic pregnancy or be miscarrying and not know it. Or, you could be pregnant but just not showing positive yet. A doctor can order a blood test.
