This is my first one ever. I’m about 3ish weeks and very excited. However, I’m so scared of having a miscarriage. Even the light cramps scare me, even though there’s no bleeding or anything.
So what’s the percentage of women who have a miscarriage with their first pregnancy? And what put your mind at ease when you were afraid of having one?

"Prospective studies using very sensitive early pregnancy tests have found that 25% of pregnancies are miscarried by the sixth week LMP (since the woman’s Last Menstrual Period)."
I’ve had two children and during the first trimester was extra paranoid. So I was extra careful. I tried to take care of myself, get a lot of sleep, no drinking, no ‘cheating’ by eating any of the warning foods on my doctor’s list. Tried to stay calm.
And then knowing that I was doing everything I could to be healthy, I figured that if I did have a miscarriage it wasn’t meant to be for some reason and that at least I knew I could get pregnant.
There’s no magic wand and no guarantees… and it’s hard to accept that – even when I had my second I felt that way and worried.
Try to be positive and do the right things. There’s not much else you can do except not obsess….
I think it is 15% of pregnancies end in miscarriage
You know your pregnant already at 3 weeks?
everyones scared of miscarriages.
but only 15% of pergnancies end in one
i had a miscarriage with my 2nd baby.
once you get past 13 weeks its very unlikely ull have one..but until then you gotta hang in there. and try not to worry because the odds are in your favor.
Probably around 15 to 17%. Most do not know they are pregnant and some have a ‘heavier’ than normal period that is really a loss.
I was never worried. I had no reason to be.
God has a plan for us all. There is nothing you can do but your best.
I miscarried the first time I was pregnant (I was 20). My doctor told me one in three pregnancies end in miscarriage, most before the woman knows she is pregnant.
I think the total percentage is 25% of women will have a miscarriage at some stage in their lives. That’s one out of 4, very common.
I couldn’t find any data demonstrating that first pregnancies are any different from later pregnancies concerning miscarriage rates. About 10-20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. About 75% of those occur in the first 2-3 weeks, before the woman knows she’s pregnant. About 80% of miscarriages happen in the first trimester.
Its difficult to say the percentage of women who have a miscarriage with their first pregnancy, because sometimes women do not realise they are pregnant.
Either way, there is no reason to assume you will miscarriage – just continue to take your prenatal vitimins, eat healthy and continue seeing your doctor. If you are going to miscarriage, nothing you can do will prevent it, unfortunately.
I wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy!
And to the person who seemed shocked that this girl knew she was pregnant at 3 weeks, it can happen! It happened with me. I knew 2 weeks before I could get a positive blood test that I was pregnant. I just had the feeling and had to have 2 blood tests to confirm pregnancy!
i don’t think it really has anything to do with first pregnancy. i have never experienced one myself and i know quite few people that have experienced them its like a 15-20% chance you miscarriage in any pregnancy doesn’t matter if its your first pregnancy or second third fourth so on and so forth. most miscarriages are due to the fetus not forming properly but trust me its something you cant stop from happening.
It’s hard to get statistics because a lot of women miscarry before they even know they are pregnant.
