Breast feeding has A LOT to do with fertility. While you are breastfeeding your body releases a hormone that keeps you from getting pregnant. You can get pregnant again however, if the hormone production is low. Look up "Irish Twins".

It’s pretty much impossible for you to conceive within the first six weeks..however, you shouldnt be having sex then anyway! Need to let your body heal…after that, it depends on the woman…basically the first time you get a period you are fertile again (and really two weeks before that) that is why it is tricky because you ovulate before you actually have your first period. I know for me, it was 3 months and I have breastfed my baby exclusively

There is a possibility of conception as soon as you ovulate. Breastfeeding does not suppress ovulation in everybody. You may well ovulate BEFORE you get your first post-birth period, so please take precautions if you don’t wish to conceive again right away.

Your supposed to avoid having any type of sex for the first 40 days. This avoids for you to get pregnant and any infections in your vagina. You see your body just went into tremendous stress while giving birth, everything is trying to get back to normal. Take care of your self, if your partner needs to have relations with you he has to understand how important is for you to stay out of sex for the first 40 days. Just have him releave himself.

My doc told me your body can be so wacky that it could be anytime. Part of the reason they don’t want you having sex for 6 weeks is healing, another part is to help your system get back on track. Especially if you are going to go on BC, they want you to get a period and back to a regular cycle.

Best bet, no fooling around until doc gives you the okay…better safe than sorry.

After you give birth, you can get pregnant almost right afterwards. I would say after the first milk has came in (colostrum).

    Just a guess.

You can get pregnant as soon as you ovulate. Breastfeeding will USUALLY delay ovulation but it’s different for every woman. My babe was 10 months before I finally got a period again. My friend’s was almost 2 years (yes, she was still breastfeeding). My mom said she got her period after only 6 weeks when she was breastfeeding. It’s not something you can predict.

I’m pretty sure that nursing or not you can’t really get pregnant again till 2nd month. However, I nursed and still didn’t want to risk it at all. My hubby has never been one for a condom, but I was so close to dying in labor I made sure not to risk it at all. Actually, I take that back, after about 2 weeks of trying to use condoms, we did switch to those dissolving bullets that are supposed to kill semen (I’m not dumb, I just cant remember what they’re called). Anyhow, I nursed all by boys and after the last one I don’t think that nursing alone is agood enough contraception, not for me anyway. I’m glad to hear you are nursing and hope you the best. Best wishes

It is possible to get pregnant right away and while you are nursing, it depends on individual fertility. Yes breastfeeding lowers your chances, but it is still very possible. If you got pregnant right away with this one, I would be extra careful. Congratulations on the new baby and on breastfeeding!! The best thing you can do for your newborn!!

    Yes you can

It is possible to conceive right after giving birth. It isn’t normal. Usually your body is healing so it makes it difficult. Breastfeeding has nothing to do with pregnancy.

One can fall pregnant right away — Docs do recommend after 6 months after giving birth to go and have a final check up that all is back to normal — Congratulations on your baby
