l had my first appointment at 8 weeks and when she did it, she said that l felt like l was around 8 weeks. So, depending when your first appointment is, they should be able to tell right then.

Well usually they will give you a urine or blood test to confirm the pregnancy, then they do a pelvic exam to make sure the uterus is growing properly. I havent ever heard of a doctor first doing a pelvic exam to detect pregnancy, but I could be wrong? Pregnancy is a nice little process at first.

From the day you had unprotected sex, sperm can live in the vagina up to 3-4 days. It may take 3-4 days before the sperm fertilizes the egg. In addition to that, it can take up to 10 days for implantation. Implantation is when the ferilized egg attaches itself to the uterus (at that point you are officially pregnant.) Then your body will accept the pregnancy and start producing the pregnancy hormone. After your body has produced a high enough level of the pregnancy hormone, you can test for it. Typically women are about 4-5 weeks when they test positive. Then it takes a few weeks before changes in the uterus occur.

I would say at about 8-9 weeks the doctor will be able to detect that the uterus has expanded a little bit.
