The reason you aren’t safe is that sperm can live inside you for possibly up to a week. Average ovulation is Day 14. 14-9 = 5, less than a week. Oops! And that’s assuming you have average ovulation. Since sometimes you have short or long cycles, sometimes you probably ovulate earlier or later, and it’s really hard to tell. The egg itself only lives for a couple of days, but since you don’t know for sure when it’s there, any unprotected sex is living dangerously.
