Hi Andrea,
“A study from Harvard Medical school involving 18,000 women has shown that taking multivitamins, particularly folic acid, can improve chances of pregnancy…”
That study followed nurses who have hoped to get pregnant for an eight year period. Women who took their multivitamin six times a week were 40% less likely to fail to ovulate than women who took
none.
When you are shopping for the best multi there are many different options out there.
Synthetic.
Whole food based.
100% whole food.
My absolute first choice would be 100% whole food. Could you think of a better place to get your nutrients then from whole foods? The human body is not designed to consume isolated nutrients and use them effectively.
I also recommend for women who are preparing for conception to take a prenatal multivitamin. Prenatal multivitamins, especially ones that are 100% whole food, contain all of the nutrients needed for a healthy reproductive system. You will also be taking important nutrients that are needed to be taken before pregnancy to prevent birth defects.
In the case of PCOS, eating a diet that is specific for that condition is also extremely important. A big part of the problem with PCOS is the high insulin resistance. Resistance to insulin increases the bodies insulin levels which effects normal ovulation by preventing the body from ovulating or limiting the maturation process of the released egg. Women who are insulin resistant are also 4-5 times more likely to have a miscarriage. Imbalanced insulin levels due to PCOS make it difficult for the embryo to attach properly to the uterus.
Eating a specific PCOS Fertility Diet is one of the best things you can do to improve your chances of becoming pregnant.
Prenatal vitamins will not help you to conceive but maybe you should take them anyway. It’s good to take care of yourself and eat healthy before you even get pregnant if you are planning to have a child.
Pre Natal vitamins DO NOT get you pregnant. They help with the baby once you ARE pregnant in fulfilling nourishment.
Be thankful that you are only paying $100 for 5 pills. I am spending over $4,000 for meds with IVF.
No, they will not help you conceive. Typically, Clomid or Femara are drugs that will help you ovulate and are given to women with PCOS.
Good luck.
You other people are WRONG.
My mother was trying to conceive and asked MY ob some questions about prenatal vitamins.
It helps BOOST your fertility by a small* percentage. My mother is 9 weeks pregnant!
Plus prenatal’s are always recommended to take before you get pregnant.
