My friend told me she wanted to get pregnant so when her boyfriend took off the used condom and put it in an empty trash can she got it out when he got in the shower and that’s how she got pregnant. I’m not sure i’m buying her story! Wouldn’t the sperm have died once they stayed in the condom for a half hour and gotten cold? She later told her boyfriend the condom must have broken. Neither one of us are buying this, we think she must be cheating.

No it can’t once sperm comes in contact with oxygen it most likely dies within a few seconds if not immediately
It is possible, but not that common. She is cheating… Do a dna test, to play on the safe side.

I would think after it has been sitting in the trash can the sperm would "die" and not be able to be used to impregnate.

Your friend needs counseling. I would certainly suggest to her boyfriend to have a paternity test. I don’t know how long sperm last and if they die once they get cold, but this is a very unlikely story.
I believe sperm dies after being in contact with oxygen after 7 minutes.
if I were the boy I’d leave since she doesn’t seem to care about his feelings on the subject.

NOPE! Condoms have spermicide inside of them that kill off the sperm. Plus when they touch air they die as well. There is no way she could of took it all out and inserted into her and got pregnant.

Being cold has nothing to do with it! how do you think they store sperm in a sperm bank? they freeze it! Heat is actually worse for them…heat beyond that of a avg body temp anyway.
It IS possible that she got pregnant this way…but…do you really think she did that??? probably not. lol
sperm live better outside the body, thats why the testes are held in a sack outside. they live longer in slightly cooler than body temperature. She easily could have impregnated herself this way. Sperm can live 1-3 days in the human body and dont die straight away so this is entirely plausible.
the real question here is- what kind of person does this anyway- maybe you should try to get her to a psychiatrist.
Eh, it’s unlikely. But possible. How do you think Sperm banks work? They freeze the sperm. Room temp is definitely not freezing though, and it sperm does die within a few minutes of being exposed to oxygen, but depending on how it was disposed of, it’s possible to keep sperm alive quite a while.
If the sperm is in semen and there was no spermicide in the condom, she could have up to 72 hours to get those rascals into her. She isnt lying, she is just a fool who I will now have to pay taxes to support the rest of her and her kids life.

The sperm is fully viable outside the body for at least 30 mins, and can work up to 4 hrs.
