If you get pregnant on Implanon what happens?
I have heard two things that when you take the pregnancy test it will be negative and the other is that it makes your body abort the baby. Does anyone know about either of these? I am wanting to have this type of birth control but won’t if it will abort a pregnancy may it occur.
Getting pregnant on Implanon would be similar to getting pregnant on other hormonal birth control. It will not affect a pregnancy test. There is not any evidence that hormonal birth control causes harm if pregnancy does occur.
If pregnancy occurs, the implant will be removed right away and the medical provider would check to make sure the pregnancy is not ectopic (outside the uterus). An ectopic pregnancy can be dangerous. There is some evidence that there is a slightly higher risk of ectopic pregnancy with Implanon than when not taking any hormonal birth control.
