it depends on what you define as "okay"; whether you want your child to win the nobel prize or to shovel snow in kansas

plenty of people drink and smoke not knowing they were about to fall pregnant so i wouldnt worry about it too much. Your eggs are with you since birth so its no different to do these things any other times. After your pregnant is a different matter though

    good luck and enjoy

my first child was a suprise and he is bright and healthy and i was partying a bit when he was concieved

I don’t think it would hurt that much. Think of how many people get tipsy and have accidental pregnancies, yet the baby is fine. Just don’t get super drunk and smoke a pack because keep in mind what is in your blood will find it’s way to the embryo should the egg attach tonight; however, your baby would be hardly developed if you just conceive tonight.
Ultimately it is up to you and how you feel your body will react with it all and if you are comfortable with having a few & then trying to conceive.

    Good Luck!

A lot of babies are conceived when their mothers have drank or smoked in early pregnancy. People often forget how resilient babies are. Babies, over the course of human history, have survived way worse than cigarettes and alcohol, and we’ve managed to survive for millions of years. The thing is, while it may not specifically HARM your chances, it certainly doesn’t HELP them. What would more likely affect your fertility is long-term smoking, not social smoking. I would be more concerned with the drinking. This actually has a greater impact on development, even that early on. Your egg experiences everything you experience, so alcohol gets into your bloodstream, and it can affect development. In fact, the earliest stages of pregnancy are the most critical — when the cells are dividing and when critical functions are underway. These things can be affected directly by alcohol consumption, yes. Smoking I am slightly less concerned about, but drinking is probably less safe. I mean, you should be fine, but they say to cut out all that stuff while you’re TTC and start taking prenatal vitamins before you’re pregnant.

All that said, I would advise against engaging in either of these things *after* tonight. A lot of women do smoke and drink before they even know they’re pregnant, but again, it won’t help. You could possibly be doing damage that can never be undone, and these are chemicals you can absolutely live without. So 9 months of abstinence is worth having a healthy baby who doesn’t have to live their life with health complications or developmental problems. I’d feel so guilty if my drinking left my baby impaired in some way. In my opinion, if you don’t *need* it, don’t bother. It’s nothing you’ll miss. It’s better to be cautious than to roll the dice and risk your baby’s health, even if the odds are very slim. So while you may be okay, and the baby may be okay, there’s no guarantee, and you have to ask yourself if you think it’s worth the risk. Is drinking and smoking worth causing your baby irreversible developmental problems?

If you’re trying to conceive you should be preparing your body to carry that child better than you currently are. Smoking and drinking that much is going to be damaging not only to your body but to your child’s as well. It’s one thing to ruin your body, but your child has no choice in the matter, you should do something for them instead of thinking of yourself.

The only thing it would affect is possibly conceiving as nicotine is actually REALLY hazardous to your uterus– and I say this as a previous smoker so I am not some anti smoking freak–

but my brother is a physician and made me aware of this about two years before I quit…so, it wouldn’t hurt your potential baby (i don’t see how at least) but it may make it more difficult for you to conceive this month–

I don’t understand why people try to conceive if they can’t even stop drinking? Is it really hard to just stop drinking and smoking when having a baby? Think of how much you will have to give up when you do have a child or if you even do.
