I’d just like to know if it’s only possible to get pregnant during ovulation. Can you get pregnant while on your period, right before or after the period, or any other time other than ovulation? What would be the likelihood of getting pregnant during any time other than the ovulation phase? My husband and I have been thinking about children lately and just wanted to know. Thanks in advance.

  1. Sophie and Jacob's mummy says:

yes, as this is the only time there is an egg present. However sperm can live for a few days so it is possible to become pregnant from sex that wasn’t during ovulation if ovulation occurs soon afterwards. It is only possible to conceive during ovulation however.

Your first answer is completely wrong.

  2. Tell Me More says:

no, you can get pregnant outside of ovulation b/c sperm can make it past the cervix and can live for up to a week (although it’s been documented to survive for 10 days). it’s rare, though, b/c sperm usually will die in the vagina (acidic environment) within several hours, but if it makes it past the cervix even during menstruation…n u ovulate say, a week later, it’s still possible to get preggo.

You can get pregnant anytime. The chances are slimmer.

  4. Veruca S says:

Physically it is only possible to get pregnant around ovulation. Sperm can live in your body for up to 5 days, but typically only live about 2-3 days. If there are sperm in your body when the egg is released, then pregnancy is possible. The reason some people report getting pregnant during period, or right around it, is that they ovulated early or late. Although ovulation typically occurs around mid-cycle, or day 14, cycles vary widely between women and few have a textbook cycle. Using an ovulation kit is a good way to determine when you are ovulating in your cycle. I usually ovulate around day 11 or 12, so if I waited until 14 like common advice, then I would miss my window.
