My wife and I have been trying to conceive for over 2-years. She has become very upset and in my estimation fairly depressed. I truly think she needs a little help (drug) to get out this funk, so she can go on. Are there any safe anti-depressants for woman trying to conceive?

It is completely normal to feel depressed if you have been ttc for an extended time without any success. She should consult her doctor for a referal to a counselor / doctor. There are ones that specialize in working with people experiencing fertility issues.

I don’t know if there are specific meds – but if she is not on medications now then there may be other options that would work for her – talking to a counselor, support group, acupuncture etc . . . I found a great deal of comfort by joining a women’s support group for women dealing with fertility issues. Not all solutions come in the form of a pill and why risk taking meds if it is not necessary and if she might respond to other treatments . . . .

    Best wishes & baby dust!

I don’t know if my meds are great for conceiving, but as long as you get off of them it shouldn’t hurt your chances much. I’m on Zoloft in the morning and Amitriptaline at night. I also have Irritable Bowel Syndrome so i’m on medication for that as well. As long as she finds out she’s pregnant as soon as possible and tapers off of the drugs she’ll be fine. Most likely will only be given a small dosage.
