I’m 14 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Are there any specific foods that should be eaten during pregnancy? Do you sometimes have to fight the cravings, or are the foods you crave good for the baby?

sometimes the foods you crave are no good for you or baby…beer for example i wanted one so bad!! but most cravings even sugary ones you can indulge in just remember to only have a small ammount. my favorite was mixing healthy with my unhealthy snacks, like strawberrys dipped in vanilla pudding! sooooo good. eat green leafy veggies to help egt your iron and make sure to get lots of calcium happy eating!
If all you are craving is junk food then yes, try to fight the cravings. It’s ok to give in now and then but you want the bulk of your nutrition to be healthy stuff. Avocado, wheat germ, lean meats, low-fat/fat-free dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese), fruits, veggies, whole wheat/whole grain breads, oatmeal, eggs, low-fat peanut butter are just a few of the healthy choices you should have in your diet.
you can eat pretty much whatever you want. just no caffeine, and limited soda, no fish with mercury, and thats pretty much the line on what you cant have. sometimes what you crave is what your body needs. like if you crave meat, you need protein. so go with the cravings! unless your cravings are constantly chips and milk shakes lol. well good luck and enjoy your pregnancy. eat and be merry haha!
The most important thing to remember is that all your nutritional intake will be given to be the baby, no matter how well you are or are not nourished. I struggled with staying hydrated for my last pregnancy, I was always throwing up, I lost over 50 pounds during my pregnancy. I was so concerned about my baby’s growth, especially since I couldn’t really eat or drink anything before puking it all up. Anyhow, she was born fine, no problems, and on time. If you are craving its your body’s way of telling you to replace what the baby has used from your nutritional intake. It depends on what you are craving as for if it will be good for the baby. Vegetables and fruits are excellent sources of nutrients and vitamins for both you and the baby. I’ve been told that caffeine can delay brain development, but that is just heresay, I can’t confirm that. Take care of yourself and your baby.
what i do is eat like usual. plus remember that its hard as hell to lose weight after wards. Its not a rule that pregnant women should eat a whole cake to themselves so i dont know why some think they should.
Just eat as normal, except i usually sub out chips with my burger for carrots and ranch. And i drink pretty much all water and let myself have a soda for dinner. ITs not that hard to eat good. just dont buy the bad food. Best advice to stick to this, when you go to buy groceries go on all the outside aisles first and then if you must, cause you are pregnant, go in the middle aisles and grab a pizza and some ice cream. But if you only have couple bad choices in your whole house, you will probably be a good eater.
Whatever was healthy for you before you got pregnant is probably healthy for you now. So if you’re craving deep-fried Mars bars (a Canadian specialty) it’s not going to be any better for you than it would have been before conception.
On the other hand, your risks increase when you’re pregnant so there are things you should stay away from. These include ‘raw’ foods such as sushi, deli meats, and unpasteurized cheeses. All of these foods have a higher chance of carrying food-borne bacteria that can attack your vulnerable pregnant immune system and, in some cases, cause damage to your baby. It’s also recommended to stay away from alcahol and decrease your caffeine intake.
Things that I think are especially good for a pregnant woman to eat are: fish (but not every day), nuts, green veggies, and increased dairy products. These provide nutrients that are often depleted in a pregnant woman.
Oh, and in terms of the amount of food that you eat, you may find that you’re a little hungrier. Indulge in eating slightly larger portions according to your needs, but make sure to stop when you’re full. This seems obvious but it’s probably a challenge that most people fail at.
Enjoy your pregnancy and your healthy meals!
