11 weeks pregnant with #2. Does anyone have any safe natural cold remedies?? I can’t breathe from the nasal congestion, my cough is horrible and I am desperate for relief. I spoke to my OB and they said I could take tylenol cold but I don’t feel comfortable taking it as my previous OB that I had while pregnant with my daughter said it wasn’t safe to take. So due to the conflicting advice, I feel more comfortable not taking it.

I just got over the same head cold (courtesy of my gracious husband!) My doc & pharmacist both recommended alternating evry 4 hours between Sudafed & Tylenol Head Congestion. The Tylenol contains acetaminophen, which is safe to take during preg. Other than that and a large humidifier in my room, that was about all that I could do! You may want to try turning on a ceiling fan as well to keep the humid air circulating. Keep taking in fluids & get plenty of rest.
    Good luck hun & congrats!!!

Peppermint tea with honey in it really helped me. A humidifier and some vick’s vapo rub works good and is safe too.

I also have conflicting information from my previous ob in 2005 and my current one. The 2005 one no to sudafed and the current says it’s okay….
Both agreed that benadryl and regular tylenol are okay. Mint tea also helps, and good old vick’s vapor rub. The vapor plugs I use when my daughter is sick work pretty well.

I had the flu in October, I DID take Tylenol but it didn’t help at all. So my husband and I decided to try to make our own thing. We used a mug of hot water, mixed with some lemon juice, honey, garlic powder and ginger powder (all safe during pregnancy), within 3 days the flu was gone. So I believe that works! If nothing else it makes your chest feel better because you are drinking something warm and soothing.

Do the vaporizer thing however increase your "superfoods" your fruits (high in vitamin C). Do kiwi, blueberries, raspberries. Make smoothies with the fresh fruit. High does of vitamin C can help and its a water soluble vitamin meaning you will just pee out what your body won’t use.

Chicken noodle soup, there are hidden secrets in chicken broth that really does work at healing.

    Rest Rest Rest

I have been taking Claritin D. My OB said it was safe, and it works WONDERS. I was leary about taking it so I only took the 12 hour stuff at bed time. This gave me the needed relief to get some sleep. During the day I would suck on a cough drop(only half) and that also helped.

boil some water, place it in a bowl with a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil and inhale the steam- the heat helps break up the congestion and the eucalyptus helps to fight the viral infection. homemade chicken soup with lots of vegetables and garlic help too. make sure you get lots of rest to give your body a chance to fight the illness

The safest thing during pregnancy is natural remedies. Check out this new natural medicine manual and use remedy that is safe for you. The natural medicine manual is called: God’s Medicine Is Best (herbs, vitamins and minerals) by Linda Wise. I am sure you will find help. Stay well.

It can be difficult when you get conflicting information from your OB, so if you are super desperate, I would suggest going to your local pharmacy and asking them what is safe to take during pregnancy, as they deal with these issues all the time.

Here are a few things that have helped me so far…

This sounds silly, but if your cough is keeping you awake at night, put vicks vapor rub on your feet and wear socks to bed… You may feel sweaty, but it helps to sweat the virus/cold from your body and you get a better night rest because you arent coughing so much!

Anything lemon and honey is fantastic for sore throats etc that come with colds and coughs.

Having steaming showers (not standing under the water, just being in the shower area with the water boiling hot) will help ease the nasal congestion.

Drink lots of fluids (water is normally best) and eat oranges as they have lots of vitimin C which helps boost your immune system naturally!

    Good Luck hunni!

Honey and lemon in tea can work wonders along with chicken soup! I used this when I had a cold when I was breastfeeding as I didn’t want to take medication so I’m sure it would work with being preg. =)
