My fiance and I do get intimate quite often, not everyday but at least 5-8 times a week, sometimes more. We’ve been that way for two and a half years and no luck yet getting pregnant. My question is, what do doctors consider "trying to conceive"? Are we the type of couple who should get checked for infertility or what?

Unprotected sex, the obvious, and also tracking your ovulation. 90% of couples will get pregnant when TTC within the first 18 months. The best bet will to have sex prior to ovulation since the sperm can live in the body for up to five days but the egg dies after 24 hours. Just to ease your worries (since stress can cause problems while TTC) I would consult your OB and they will suggest what to do next. It took four years for us conceive Liam. I never thought it would happen. They prescribed clomid but I hated the side effects so decided not to continue with it. A year and a half we had Liam. Good Luck and baby dust to you!!!!!
having unprotected sex regularly for a year. if you want to be checked bring it up to your OB and she will work everything out for you two.
I would try to go to the doctor maybe one of you just cant have kids. Sorry I know thats the last thing you want to hear but, that might be what it is. Goodluck.
trying would mean that you are charting your ovulation in some way, and actually checking to see if you ovulated and have had sex around ovulation every cycle for the past year, before they will test you for infertility issues.
It took me two years of actively trying to get pregnant and 5 years of unprotected sex.
just unprotected sex for a year. but go ahead and see a doc. it will take a long time to get to the point to having a baby, wait no longer.
You are doing everything you should be doing. I would recommend going to either your OB/GYNO or your primary doctor as a start.
Something you can do before you get there is start taking your Basal Body Temperature (BBT) and charting that. I had to do that for 3 months before they would proceed with any other testing. A wonderful site that can help you with that is FertilityFriend.com. All you need for taking your BBT is a Basal Thermometer and they are really cheap at any drug store. If your charts show you are ovulating normally then they may suggest your husband leave a sperm sample. That’s the next easiest step before putting you through a bunch of testing. Good luck with your journey ahead.
The absolute technical answer to it is that you have been having unprotected sex and have not conceived in 12 months.
My ob/gyn still wanted to know if I was charting, taking opk’s and also having sex regularly but still went ahead and ordered initial testing.
If it has been a year and you would like to have children please call your doctor. It may be nothing which was our case but it’s always good to know.
*I wanted to add that we didn’t naturally conceive our first for 3 years so it can happen. #2 was conceived on 1 try*
If you are having sex that often then you could not have missed ovulation and should have conceived. They say that after 3 years of not conceiving it likely won’t happen naturally. I would have your doctor refer you to a fertility specialist.
Unprotected sex every month for 1 year.
yes, you have been trying for over 2 years so you would get some help. good luck
Yes unprotected sexual intercourse for 12 months and not becoming pregnant is considered being infertile. either you, your partner or both may have an issue. It is worth going to a specialist to treat it. You can choose from IVF, ICSI, surrogacy, egg donor, egg fertilization, freezing, etc.
