Multiples rarely make it to full term, most are born preterm, often end up in NICU for the beginning, and the odds of lung and breast feeding issues is also very high. The odds of physical and mental disabilities also increases greatly with multiples.

Although they’re cute, most people don’t realise all the difficulties and extra obsticles that arise with multiples.

Sorry, I know this is really negative, but I worked in a kids rehab hospital for years, and saw many many twins. This new trend to actively try to have twin + caused by all these multiples reality shows bothers me.

I have read a lot of things about trying to have twins. One is that they have to run in your family not his. Second they did a couple of test and found out that twins are more common in older women and women who are over weight and who have had a lot of children. But some of these thing may not work for everyone so if you want to plan them I would think about IVF
GOOD LUCK & LOTS OF BABY DUST (:

I dont understand the big deal about multiples… I’m a twin, we are very close yes, but we hate being twins. At 28 years old we still get called "the twins" , you’re never your own person. We love each other but we are night and day for which everyone gives us a hard time… You think its cute, but think about how many times a day growing up "the twins" will be asked "if one is hit, will the other feel it? Can you read each others mind? Do you have your own language? Do you finish each others sentences? Do you know when each other are in trouble, pain, or happy even though you’re not together?" AHHH, Seriously people it’s kinda cool, until the 20 questions from teachers, friends, dates, everyone who finds out… Imagine when you went dress shopping for your prom, you hoped to get the perfect dress and to be the only one wearing it… now imagine showing up in the dress at least one other person is wearing, ok and all the girls saying so and so is in the same dress.. thats a twins life every day.

    1. Take folic acid daily. Folic acid is important for any healthy pregnancy, and it has also been shown to increase the likelihood of conceiving twins–an additional one woman out of 176 taking folic acid will bear twins, as compared to women not taking the supplement. If you want to have twins, start taking folic acid at least one month before conception.

    2. Eat yams for at least 2 years before conception and keep eating them. In a region in Africa where yams is a staple of the local diet, women have the highest rate of twins found anywhere in the world. Many nutrition researches agree that eating this yam increases ovulation.

    3. Drink milk and eat beef to increase the odds of having twins. According to Dr Gary Steinman, lead scientist in a medical study of twins, women who have a milk-based diet are more likely to conceive twins naturally than their vegan counterparts. It is thought that natural properties in milk may stimulate the ovaries, encouraging the production of multiple eggs for conception.

    4. If you have an infant or toddler keep nursing it while you try to conceive twins naturally. According to one study, women who are still breastfeeding and yet fertile are slightly more likely to produce twins.

    5. Gain weight. Women with slightly higher fat percentages and those who are a little overweight are more likely to have twins. Don’t overdo it, however–your health is especially important during pregnancy.

    6. Have a family history of FRATERNAL twins (IDENTICAL twins are completely RANDOM). This one is out of your control, but if the MOTHER has fraternal twins in her family, she is more likely to have twins of her own. You can quite possibly conceive twins (or improve your chances) without a family history, but it helps.

    7. Maximize your intake of whole foods to optimize your nutrition and increase your chances of carrying twins to term.

    8. Eat a healthy diet as you try to conceive twins and become pregnant. Your body needs to have a good supply of nutrients to conceive and nourish two babies.

    9. Have several babies and try to conceive twins in your late 30′s or early 40′s. Women who already have had children and are slightly older are more likely to have twins.

    10. Birth control pills are usually thought to be 99.9 percent effective at preventing pregnancy. However, that .01 percent often results in a double whammy — multiples. Sometimes pregnancy occurs when the pill isn’t taken consistently; in other cases, the hormonal mix of a particular drug type simply doesn’t provide enough coverage to completely prevent ovulation. In either case, playing around with hormones can lead to hyperovulation, increasing the chances of multiples.

    11. In vitro fertilization

Warning: Multiple carry more risks than singletons. Be sure you are in top physical condition before trying to conceive twins, and discuss the implications with your midwife or OB-GYN. If you want to avoid preterm labor the key is to keep stress levels down and stay off your feet as much as possible.

    Good Luck!!!!!!!
