My husband and I are going to start "trying" to conceive in about 6 months. It’s a while away but I’m already thinking toward that time. I know when it comes time, I need to go to an OB-GYN, take pre-natal vitamins and such….but are there other things I should or shouldn’t do? For instance, I read an article the other day that really scared me! It said even small amts of trans-fats can almost DOUBLE infertility rates in women! That was so scary! So, I will definitely be staying away from trans-fats. Anything else I should be doing or shouldn’t be doing?

buy what to expect when you’re expecting. it has lots of info for how to prepare yourself (and hubby) and what to expect while you are pregnant. good luck and baby dust!!
I’ve heard green tea is good. Also there is a book called "taking charge of your fertility" that has great tips. My GF and I have been trying for months. We got that book and she got pregnant the first time we tried the techniques (sadly she miscaried, but she had other health problems). And i wouldnt worry too much about the trans-fats. Americans are obese and unhealthy (me included) and yet we still manage to have lots of babies.
Staying stress free will help a lot and not trying so hard when your not trying that’s when it happens other than that you have the rest of it down pack Good Luck.
I would suggest making sure you are taking adequate levels of folic acid, since a deficiency can lead to greater risk of neural tube defects in a baby. Also, just make sure that your general health is good – stop smoking & drinking, get enough sleep, get yourself into shape. Also, if you haven’t been to a dentist in a little while, it might be good to get a cleaning out of the way before getting pregnant. Many dentists won’t work on pregnant women.
Good luck with everything!
I would, if you haven’t already, begin an exercise routine. The more "on target" your weight is the better. Also, I am a believer in the "no stress" suggestion above. And that means not reading too much into it at the beginning. Make sure you make this wonderful experience fun and don’t ruin it by being too scientific about it. All my friends who were obsessive about trying to get pregnant regretted it and said they’ll never do that again. My husband begged me to not read too much into it, and just have fun trying. We were lucky and got pregnant the first month out. Don’t worry about all those studies. Give it a few months, and if you haven’t conceived then try talking to someone. Good luck and have fun!!!
