My daughter was born in April. At this moment I don’t plan on getting pregnant within the next year, but I was thinking when my daughter turns a year old, we could start trying again. I’d like my children to be close in age. Is a year long enough for your body to heal? I know some women have kids back to back, but I don’t think I’d handle that so well.

So what is the least amount of time your body needs to heal and recuperate?

a year is a very good amount of time to wait. Im not 100 percent sure of the minimum but I think it can be as early as 1 or 2 months after birth.

That’s a good time for you. But it’s when you are ready to have kids. And the doctors will tell you that six weeks be4 you can have sex after your baby is born doesn’t mean it’s okay to get pregnant at that time. My husband and i are going to wait 1 year be4 we have our second child. That way our kids will be close in age as well. We just had a baby in May. So we don’t want our son to be alone and no one to play with. But your body should already be healed up unless you had a c-section. Then it takes a little longer for you to heal. Good luck and congrats on your new bundle of joy!

Well considering that women do have kids back to back, you can do that…but I think a year is best. It is such a tough thing on your body, so I think it’s a good idea to give your body time to recover. Congrats and good luck!

Most doctors will tell you that they want you to wait at the least, a year. You can get pregnant sooner, but your body takes about a year to build up all of it’s reserves in vitamins (like iron), and just "heal", a long with getting your shape some what back. My last OB told me he prefers 2 years for the womans optimum health. However my best friend from high school has five kids…the first 3 are all 2yrs and 3 months a part. She was very thin and seemed to not have a ton of problems until the babies were born. With her 4th, she accidentally got pregnant 6 weeks after # 3. And her uterus ruptured due to not healing as well from # 3. She was also really tired in that pregnancy (I wonder why? already having 3 kids under 5 ect.) Then she decided to try one more time because she had all boys and wanted a girl. She waited 9 months, had her girl; but during the c-section had major problems. She, thank goodness, can now not have any more kids. But I think 5 is enough.

Oh yeah, it is possible to get prego practically the month after giving birth, though some women who are breastfeeding take longer to get their period back. I got pregnant with #2 when my first was 9 months old. My body had entirely recovered, at least as much as it was going to!

Personally I’d wait until your first is out of diapers but a year is a safe amount of time for your body to heal from your first pregnancy I’d say I’m not a doctor or anything though.
