I’ve heard that taking pre-natal vitamins while trying to conceive is good. I just went through all the samples my doctor gave me and am ready to actually go out and buy a bottle on my own. Are there any ones over the counter that are really good to take?

Walmart has their own prenatal vitamin and that is what I was taking before I concieved. There are also Stuarts prenatal vitamins and they are comparable to walmart. GNC, Puritans Pride, all drug stores have them. You need the at least 400mcg or more of folic acid a day before conception and after conception at least 600mcg a day.
    Hope this helps.

I’m not sure you can purchase them over the counter. My prenatal vitamins are prescription from my doctor. I take prenate-D. I would advise you to get a legitmate prescription from your ob/gyn.

If you read the back of the bottle it will say what % of each vitamin is in them. They should be about the same. My doc told me the generic ones are just fine.

I think they are all pretty much the same but I am also trying to conceive and I had my doctor call in a script for me. As long as you are getting the folic acid, that is what you need.

make sure you get one with folic acid. i think gnc sells good prenatals

You can take an over the counter folic acid. Which well help in the very early development of brain cells. I don’t know that it will "help" you get pregnant. But I did hear (rumor) that protein added to your diet along with less sugar will help you conceive.
    Good luck!

MOst are pretty similar. Some differences are that they may contain a stool softener while others do not. Sometimes the vitamins can cause constipation so the stool softener helps.

Anything is better than nothing. Getting the Folic Acid is what is important in preventing birth defects such as spinal bifida and other neural tube defects.

Anyway, GNC has a specialty brand as well as Walmart and Sams. I had always gotten a prescription from my dr and started those before I conceived.

I take Spring Valley Prenatal over the counter from wal mart. I took them to my Dr asked if they were ok she read the make to check the % of everything and said they would work just as great as anything as she could give me. She said the baby is getting enough folic acid they will be fine.

  12. Spokie says:

    Take allot of Folic Acid.

  13. HONEYB1 says:

My doctor told me to take the kind that is over the counter from my local pharmacy and I do. She said those are fine while ttc. It is really the folic acid that you need and those have it. Some women I know only took the over the counter the whole time they were pregnant and their doctors told them that was ok. Best of luck ttc!!!

You can take any kind of prenatal vitamin. I used to take one that was OTC at Walmart. Actually all women of all ages should take the prenatal vitamin everyday because they are really good for you no matter your age. But unless there is a certain kind that you like, any prenatal vitamin will work. :) I did the same thing.

i am currently taking One Source from Walmart. Its a pink bottle. I love them, they are great. You can take any kind from over the counter, they are all just as good. Even the store brands.

I’m currently taking One Source from Walmart. I’ve had them since my first pregnancy. Comes in a pink bottle. I’m now pregnant with twins and taking them. Didn’t know that I was supposed to take 2 a day with first pregancy, now, with second pregnancy I have so many left (thankfully) and I’m taking 2 a day. I have heard that it’s hard to find now in Walmart so I hope you can if you choose this one. But it’s small enough to swallow (not like some pills) and really has more than what a lot of other vitamins offer. It also came with about 240 pills in it. Very inexpensive. I didn’t want a prescription because these worked so well with my first pregnancy!
