A friend and I both have chihuahuas and we tried breeding them today. We had to hold them because she is much smaller then he is. They mated about 10-12 times. Sometimes they stayed together for a few minutes. I do not know if he finished, he kept coming back for more. However, they never got stuck together. Someone told me if they do not get stuck, that it is impossible for her to conceive. Anyone know? I was also wondering if she does end of pregnant, how will I know and how long do dogs carry pups before they deliver.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

    This world makes me sick.

I spend HOURS every week on the phone, on the computer, going through files, an endless list of things—working in animal rescue. I have seven dogs in my house right now. Four are my own. Three are fosters for this rescue. It is NOT easy. I haven’t relaxed in a long time, because of pathetic, irresponsible people like yourself.

This is a horrible situation. Have you ever been in an animal shelter? Or stuck your head in a clogged toilet? The feeling is about the same. It SUCKS.

Hundreds of thousands of homeless pets die every day. And now they have you to add to their list of people to thank.

yes they need to get stuck together to breed.but be careful cause if he is much bigger then she is she will have problems giving birth to the pups and you could lose her and the pups if they are to big for her togive birth to and dogs carry their pups for 63 days.good luck

Oh Child, if the female is MUCH smaller thatn the male, you are asking for trouble. Not only with the breeding, but with delivery of the puppies. Breeding is not putting 2 available dogs together and see what comes out, it is trying to get the best possible qualities of both dogs to come thru in the litters.

The "tie" is mainly to keep sperm inside the female. Having your male continue to keep trying is not good for him, it will tire him too much, please, be responsible,
and not do this breeding with your dogs..

No they don’t! It’s called the tie. It helps to have a long tie as more seminal fluid is added to the sperm to get them to where they are needed. It also helps keep the female in one place to give the sperm more time again to get to the eggs. You would like to have a long tie which can take up to 5 minutes or more. What you have to watch out for in a maiden female is for her not to reach back and cause damage to the males face or ears. Many a stud dog has had pieces taken out of their ears and it won’t grow back! You may also have to hold the female to give the male time to get it right, you can also help by them being in a quiet area. It might take some time for him to get it right so be patient and help as needed. Good luck!
