My period hasn’t come back 5 months after giving birth and I am breastfeeding at the moment. Could anyone tell me when is the most fertile period to try for a second baby? I am hoping to get pregnant in July or August this year. What is the best time of the month to get pregnant when there is no period? Thanks a lot.

Breastfeeding reduces fertility, but doesn’t stop fertility. Every day for thirty days check your discharge. Clear discharge signals ovulation. Cloudy discharge signals the end of ovulation. It is possible to ovulate without a period after childbirth. Best wishes, G
I don’t think you can get pregnant if you haven’t gotten your period back yet…
if your breastfeeding exclusivly then its unlikely you will get pregnant, but talk to your doctor health visitor they can give you advice and take ovulation test kits they should help you to know
You won’t get your period back until you stop breast feeding.
My wife and I had our baby in November and my wife breast fed for the first two months (Jan). She got pregnant again in April so about 5 months since her last birth with two months breast feeding.
Good luck!
If you are breastfeeding and haven’t had a period, you are not yet fertile. There is no way of knowing when you will ovulate for the first time (it may happen before your first period, or not until after you’ve had one sterile cycle), so there is no way to time your attempts. And the odds of becoming pregnant again within the next 4-6 weeks are VERY low.
While some women will start having regular cycles again within 6-9 months, even while fully breastfeeding, other women won’t become fertile again until baby is eating a lot of solids, or is completely weaned.
Which means you may need to decide which is most important to you — getting pregnant again ASAP, or giving breastmilk to your current baby for the full year that is recommended by the AAP.
If it’s really important that you become pregnant again soon, you can try cutting back on breastfeeding, or weaning completely. That will probably start your cycles again — but no guarantees.
You ovulate before you get your period so it is possible to get pregnant. But if you are strictly breast feeding it is going to be more difficult. Some women don’t ovulate while breast feeding. I strictly breast fed and got my period back at 3 months, but it was irregular until 10 months when I get pregnant again. Just keep trying. If you are able….keep track of your BBT (basal body temp) on a chart to see if you are ovulating. Here’s a website that I use. It’s so easy! Good luck to you!
