Why is it that women are physically able to conceive a child before their body could actually handle it?

"After one month of trying I became pregnant and had a beautiful healthy boy!"

"After over 7 years of trying to conceive and thousands of dollars spent on infertility treatments, I had actually succeeded to get pregnant the natural way without any drugs or medical intervention "

" I just wanted to say thank you for writing this program and for giving hope to women at my age. I am 46 and I am finally going to be a mother."

I was wondering this today, that most girls start their periods at 11,12,13 so they would be able to conceive, but a lot of them are still too young and small for their body to be able to handle pregnancy and labor.
I was just wondering why that is…. Hmm nature is such a mystery.

I think it’s because most girls today get their period too early…due to better nutrition etc.
It’s thought it used to be a lot later, 100 years ago the average age was thought to be 16. Then again, were their bodies as mature?
It is a bit silly, though I think physically most girls who are developed enough to get their period would be able to go through with a pregnancy…
Also, apparently the majority of cycles in the first year are actually anovulatory, which is another factor. I read that somewhere, Wiki I think though lol.
Interesting question.
Women used to mature later. My grandmother didn’t start her periods until age 16, which was the norm back then. Plus social customs meant that women didn’t marry until they were 20-22. With better nutrition and hormones, girls are now hitting puberty around ages 11-12 and peer pressure encourages earlier sexual experimentation.
Girls largely start there periods earlier today then they did historicaly. I think part of it might be designed so that back when you could be eaten by at tiger at any moment the body was able to reproduce as soon as it was possible to maximize the chance of offspring.
You know, I never actually thought about it that way. Nature is a mystery.
maybe because the prehistoric people started making babies at a very young age because they die much younger?
i don’t know. hehehe. just a guess
Indeed it is mystery. The same as a women that doesn’t eat healthy , has no income is dirt poor and has no life to offer a child..pops out the one child after another, but then ppl that can actually afford it can’t have babies…
I heard that most girls actually used to start their periods later, around 19. I started when I was 11, though. I’ve heard of plenty of young kids whose bodies were mature enough to carry a baby. A 13 yr old got pregnant at my sister’s school and she gave birth to a healthy 8 lb baby boy with no complications.
Or Emotionally, mentally, etc.
yea it is i guess you can say one of the unanswered questions in life because girls that young will definitely put themselves at serious risk to conceive a child. but i think it is that way so that our species can just reproduce really easily.
Hormones don’t always align with physical growth, particularly for children who are overweight and/or eat a lot of food that contains hormones or that contains chemicals which can stimulate hormone production.
Even small bodied adults (obviously your average 12y-o isn’t ideal, but small women) don’t have an easy time of it. Most can handle the pregnancy surprisingly well, but labour tends to be much more difficult.
I’ve been small my entire life and have narrow hips, and have handled pregnancy just fine, but have never been able to deliver vaginally, so even as a small adult I can attest that it would be a difficult, if not impossible vaginal birth for a small preteen.
What a horrible thing for them anyway. I can see how older teens (16, 17, 18+) might be a little better able to cope with a baby, but jeez. I have a 13y-o son and most of his female friends can barely look after pet goldfish, let alone a child.
